I think Doug has a podcast for this, right after the one about which direction your pants go on. Check it out.

Ok, the proper way is about clarity. There are no stated rules other than big chips in front, but clean, organized stacks in standard counts of 20 or 40 both speed the game and help everyone focus. Anything less is a form of passive aggressive disregard.

Always make the schlub who doesn't pile their chips or who piles their chips haphazardly give you frequent counts. They will learn quickly how to properly stack their chips.

As long as you don't stack them in stacks of $50 you're cool with me. Also don't count out your bets in separate piles of two chips each. Incredibly time consuming and tilting. Ok those aren't rules just two of my pet peeves

I've done this on purpose before, but just annoyed myself after having it like that for 30 minutes. I did it after reading players that stack in 50s are usually more recreational and fishy. I wanted more action so i did stacks of 50.

1\3 ill do either 3 stacks of 100 or 3 stacks of 125 as the stack grows then at 400 same thing. 4 stacks of 100 then 4 stacks of 125 etc. I don't like to do 8 stacks of 100 because i like to appear as a smaller stack. Some times big stacks don't get action. Although once you reach 1,000 the triangle 4-3-2-1 is nice to see and a confidence booster.

I had the same inclination for a while. I would buy in my 300 for one stack of red, four greens, and one black -- and I would always play with my reds first. If this your goal for appearance, then you could always color up whenever the dealer needs a stack of reds for greens or whenever a chip runner happens to come to the table anyway.

I don't do that anymore, but that's how I accommodated my desire to look like a short stack when that was my goal.

Is this the perception? Hmmm...I play $1/2 and only about a half dozen times so far but this is how I tend to start off, with 4 stacks of reds for our full $200 buy in. It is a good base to build on I guess. I don't feel as though I am real fishy at this point so maybe it is to my advantage? Lol.

I guess I don't care for just the two taller stacks of reds. Didn't realize this bothered others.

Is it considered bad form to stack unevenly or in $50 stacks? I try not to play any of those kind of mind games at the table. Kind of bothers me a bit when people do those kinds of things purposely just to be annoying (like mixing colors or not having their cards totally visible in front of them, trying to only show their budy their folded hand, ect).

So I guess I would like to learn this stuff early. I want to play respectfully.

When my stack gets big and rest of the table is short ill color up. Different colors in california. Yellows are 5s and white ones are 100s. Ill play with seven 100s and 3 stacks of yellow. Just trying to blend in. That or change tables and start back over at 300.

You can do that??? Be up to $700, go to a new table, pocket $400, and play with $300?? That's sick.

If you want. If i rebought a couple of times and say im in for $1000 and have $1000 in front of me and whole table is 300bb deep i might change tables cause now its basically a 5\10 game that im not rolled for. Where as if im only in for my initial 300 ill let it roll and try and have a huge session.

Broken game same rules apply. Bring any where from table minimum to the amount you had on another game..

At one point they had a really messed up rule where a deep stack game broke and 1\3 was the only game left running so two deep stack played sat down with 2k each. I was just thinking that is a totally different game. Its like buying in 10k on a 20\40 limit table then your game breaks and you sit with 10k on a 1\2 table.

If you switch tables your not allowed to bring your whole stack. Just min to max. I don't think they want a certain player dominating other big stacks. Just keep switching targeting the big stack player. Most ive seen in a 2\5 with 500cap was 5500. Most on a 1\3 game was 2500. Most ive hit is 2200 (2\5) and 1800 (1\3).

Interesting. My poker room is the opposite, and I thought that it was common the other way: If you switch tables to another of the same stakes, then you have to bring your stack. Otherwise, it is far too easy to just hit and run.

I see your point, though, too. I guess there's no single rule to prevent any and all exploitative people from doing so.

I think people should bring max buyin. I see some double up to 600 or say 1000 depending on the stakes and switch tables buyin in for $200 at $1\3 or $2\5. Basically min buyin. They usually end up going home if they lose that $200 but profit like a $100 for the day.

Online is basically the same thing though. You can't jump tables and bring your whole stack unless its a zoom type game. Each table has its own buyin.
