Set of 8s on river, what's the proper value here?

Maybe nothing really interesting here but curious about a few things..

Should i call a larger raise or shove from villian at the river?
Would a preflop 3bet have been a good idea from MP?
Does the value bet make sense or should i just check this down?

Preflop is totally standard, wouldn't see a reason to 3-bet here. Be aware of 3-betting aggro reg in BB, but the button is a fish so if button calls (likely) the aggro reg won't be doing too much 3-betting. Super standard call.

    Flop and turn standard.

What were you hoping to get value from on the river? Does your sizing accomplish that?

figured any pair, 2 pair would likely call. having been checked around i thought there was a reasonable chance i was good. AJ really the only hand i was worried about.

Minraises on rivers at those stakes: 99% nuts. I hate those spots...

yeah it quickly went from, perhaps i flopped the best hand, to shit what did i get myself into. Doesn't seem like i should be folding a set here, but would it make sense just to check it down? There had been no action post flop, didn't want to leave any value on the table.

I would say you should always be betting this. Unlucky this time.

yeah the bet seemed like a no brainer. lots of weaker hands would be calling. Facing raise a little tougher, as not many second best would be doing that, tho i still think i had decent equity especially for the price.
