Satellite Tipping

Cashed in the HPT $375 ($330 + 45) satty for a main even seat. ($1650)
I played event 1 twice (-$700) and now will play the HPT Saturday. Essentially, I'm down $1,075 in Buy in money right now....

At the end of the tourney, they were asking for tips?
I didn't win anything yet.

What do you guys do in this spot?

I tipped the masseuse earlier for her service.

Tipping is by its nature voluntary and I try to tip for service.

You have technically won equity, but in a spot like this I'm mostly looking at the fine print on the structure sheet. Was any money held back for "staff fees"? If yes and it's more than 5% I'm unlikely to leave anything. If no and the dealers and staff were good, I throw in a little.

Luckily I didn't know the dealer so it made it easy to just walk away! I'll tip if I actually profit though!

Buy in was $330 +$45 so they are making 15% from every buy in.

The issue with that 15% is that unless it says otherwise it's all going to the house, not the dealers. I dunno, satellites are kinda different.

Event 1 has no bearing on the satellite, you won $1275 in the satellite and it is mostly real equity as you could sell that seat for $1550-$1600 with no problems. You should always tip in a satellite unless the dealers sucked. I would tip $20-$25.
