Question about a river bet (online tourney).

I had a recent hand that has me somewhat dumbfounded. I'm not sure if my lay down was the correct play...

Blinds are 2,250/4,500 (7 players) w/ 0.1bb ante.

Hero (38k) is in bb with :Ac :2s

Folds around to CO (131k) who makes it 9,000.

Button folds.

SB goes all-in for 13,698.

I call as does the CO.

FLOP: :7c :Qh :Ah

I check, CO checks.

Turn: :8h

I check, CO checks.

River: :4s

I check, CO bets half-pot.

I tank and finally fold.

Villain shows :6c :6D:

SB ends up taking the pot down with :Ad :Jc

Should I ever call here? Looking back, I should have folded or shoved preflop.

Thanks for any feedback!

Calling off 36% of your stack pre with A2o is pretty bad IMO. As played you flop top pair with SPR~0.5. You're never folding.

Yeah, either late tournament poker has changed since I stopped playing them but you can't call here, it's fold or jam pre flop. As to whether you can ever call on the river, like gamekat said, you should never fold top pair in this spot. The pot is 41k and you have 27k left. The only reason you ever check this flop is because you're trapping, hoping he bluffs. Remember, you're no longer checking to the raiser, he's already all in.
