The nightmare session

I ran horribly tonight. Tons and tons of action. It was like a whale convention, the poker players dream but the dream was a nightmare where the whales were eating the sharks.

I have several other but won't bore anyone. Just venting. By some miracle I climbed back and it was only a 3 buy in loss for the session. For the most part my plays were plus EV and I got it in good so I won in the long run. Entitlement tilt is an issue for me. When some 45% fish sucks out or makes a stupid play and falls in to the trap just to suck out I get tilted and I need to work on that. I got a lot of practice tonight. lol.

In all fairness here was some of the good.

    An observation.

It feels to me like your emotional resilience is currently lagging your poker expertise.

It 100% is. I am ok when it happens a few times. I am actually happy because it shows I am in a profitable game. When the deck is crushing me then I get tilted. I’ve gotten better in baby steps.

Last night was one of first times I was actually able to rebound and play my “A game” after several bad beats in a row.

I acknowledged I was tilting and continuing on while tilting would be bad for me bankroll so I stayed focused. Then I decided if I could continue or needed to quit. I was ok to continue. I loaded up the course skill “Dont pay people off”.

I still tried to put my opponents on ranges (even with VPIPs as high as 90+%). I was making pretty sick lay downs (most of my losses were when I got the chips in good). I think overall I played pretty well.

I think rec players thinks a raise is AK 90% of the time so when they call with their “non premium” hands and hit a 7 they are ahead so they try to close the action down with pot size or all in bets not even considering over pairs. They are never folding A on an A high board so set mining was very profitable and they also reach “pot committed” points early on so there is value is continuing on to make straights and flushes when stack are deep enough. I just missed every set and draw last night, but even with the emotional roadblocks I still had a good read on the game.

Get used to this if you log a lot of hand volume online. These hands will happen all the time, sometimes in the same session. If you are used to playing live where you see 33 hands an hour, multi-tabling will net you 10x the hands that you would normally expect to see. This will up your opportunities for opponents to suck out on you. This is why you keep a 50 buy-in bankroll.

Keep getting it in good and the math will catch up. Bum hunt the guy who called you Q7.
