What's Your Plan to Get Back to Playing Live? Or Did You Quit Live to Begin With?

I quit playing all live poker in March 2020, about the time that I was told to start working from home. I haven't played live poker since but then but have been playing a lot on Poker Mavens (normal home games) and on Bovada. My normal home games have not went back to live yet and I'm not sure when they will go live. My underground games started back in early May 2020 and I have been told that I'm one of the last holdouts. I'm trying to figure out what my game plan is for returning to live play. As of right now, I don't know what that game plan or timeline entails.

I'm curious to everyone's thoughts and plans here of getting back to playing live now that underground games are running and poker rooms are opening back up?

I got invited to a private game yesterday and declined. I'm waiting to see if everything opening back up will result in a spike in cases or not, which will probably take 4-6 weeks.

    Pros: Play poker
Cons: Catch the 'Rona and die

Having said that, I am pretty curious about returning. I don't have connections to underground games, so I'd be restricted to the new "4-handed" for live players at a casino. I don't have too much experience playing short handed, so I'd have to research adjusting opening frequencies for 4-handed (perhaps use co,btn,sb,bb ranges?).

One option is to go play immediately upon reopening. We would at least get some play time and I'd assume that there may be some nice comp deals to attract people. The other would be waiting 2-3 more weeks and see if(when) people get sick and they shut down the casinos again.

Taking a wait and see approach here in Vegas. I reduced my live play a few months before the wheels fell off, mostly due to cumulative disgust with the way many live players act at the table. So I'm in no hurry to get back.

I am in no hurry to get back here in the Philippines.

More of an existential question: If I was on a downswing when this all hit, am I still on a downswing, or do we all start at even again? Is this the longest downswing of my life??? LOL

I am in the wait and see camp too.

Palm Beach Kennel Club(FL) reopened yesterday with 6 handed games, no plexiglass with some stupid claim that "table isolation"(no table changes, same dealer, same chips/cards) would magically keep everyone safe.

Hard Rock Tampa FL is also open with 6m tables but at least they have plexiglass.

I would really love to play a bunch of live 6m poker so maybe the silver lining is that 6m poker will be more common in casinos.

I didn't mean to leave this thread so long without me replying. Had a loss in the family that actually ends up tying in with the discussion.

My wife and I had been very conservative with covid...working at home since February and barely going anywhere near people. My main 1/2 game has a freeroll every 10 weeks that reward the players with the most hours. This one is $2500 paid out. The host was supposed to have this game in March but delayed it. It was me and an older lady that were the last holdouts out or 13 people (I'm 46 btw) . Most everyone started playing cash again in early May. I was on the fence and planned on not playing. He set the game for May 31st. I was torn.

Well, the loss in my family required me to go to Indiana where they had just opened up funerals and basically everything. I would say 90% of the funeral including the staff was unmasked. I was around a lot of people. Since it was only 2 days later, I ended up playing in the freeroll... I figure what's 13 more people at this point?

One thing I'll say is being in another state has made me much less fearful of people and covid. Not sure that's good or bad but every state and every person has a different view on it. I'm not sure what the correct view is at this point.

I didn't stay for cash after the tourney. Not sure if I'm going to go back there next week for cash or keeping it online for awhile.

I remember when I use to play Tournament poker at the World Series of Poker with thousands of players at 10 handed tables in multiple rooms.

No divider, no mask no gloves.

    We were bad ass!

I'm hoping that live games returns to harris here in New Orleans. I love live games. I do play online, but I much prefer any live game.

I have played several times live since casinos reopened. By wearing a double mask, washing hands, frequent sanitizing, temperature checks at the door and plexiglass between players i feel pretty safe with corona. I stopped going once case numbers exploded in my state.

Poker rooms near me got shut down again into the new year, Some good rooms in neighboring states have not opened at all this year, I hope those closures are not permanent or Ill be forced to drive a long distance to play cards. Vegas is calling but I am afraid of playing during COVID.

I will have to wait again for things to open back up to play live poker,

All of us here in Las Vegas are hoping the vaccine controls this damn thing, else poker will be only one of our problems. Love to see everyone back here asap.
