What's the state of live poker where you live?

Hey everyone:

I thought it'd be a useful resource for the community to have a thread summarizing the current state of live poker in as many markets as possible. It might even prove encouraging as we can update to report an improving situation. Please feel free to describe live poker in your area in this thread. I'll quick things off.

Las Vegas Poker (Sept 1 2020)

Tourist traffic is still low here, largely because most of the major conventions scheduled for the Fall have been canceled. Live poker is up and running, with the following important changes.

Mirage, Harrah's, Green Value Ranch, Palace Station. Poker rooms closed. In all cases the closures have been described as "temporary", with no date for their return.

CET properties: all (remaining) currently playing 5-handed.

MGM properties: Aria/Bellagio/MGM offering games, although MGM has been quiet. Excalibur/Mandalay Bay poker rooms closed with no available opening date.

Westgate reopens Sept 10.

To be updated.

Here in Upstate NY at 1pm Bravo is saying there are 45 casinos within 500 miles of me and only 5 poker rooms open among them:

    Turning Stone
    Boston Billiard Club & Casino
    Hollywood Perryville
    Maryland Live
    MGM Harbor Casino Resort

So yeah... continuing to play the weekly home game online via PokerStars and still waiting for the nearby casinos to open!

NH here. Only legal live poker in the northeast. Poker has been open since June 18th. Closest place beside NH is Turning stone in NY. Other than that it is Maryland.

All rooms are six-handed and most require masks.

Chasers in Salem are insanely busy as there is usually ~30 on the list for 1/2.

Boston Billiards in Nashua seems to get the biggest action with more 2/5 tables going than the other rooms and the occasional 5/10 table. It's odd though because the max buy-in for both games is $1k.

Manchester poker room is about to open a brand new facility that is very large and will have a sportsbook. Manchester is also the only room in the state I believe running tournaments and they routinely get 100ish players 3 times a week for tournaments.

There are other rooms in the state open but I don't know much about them.

It's very encouraging as cases in the state continue to decline.

    “Can’t forget the Motor City”
All three Detroit casino poker rooms; Motor City, MGM Grand, and Greektown, are still closed. MGM and Greektown had just expanded their rooms right before the chit hit the fan.
Casinos re-opened in early August. Casino capacity limited to 15%. Most interesting is the fact all three are not allowing smoking. Smoking and slot play go hand in hand, so I assume this is not going over well with the people rolling in now.

In south FL the two Seminole Casinos have been open for while playing 7 handed with plexiglass table dividers. They have been getting a decent number of games based on the Bravo which is surprising to me as we have worse corona numbers now than when we were under stay at home orders!

There are a lot of other poker rooms that still haven't opened so I guess most of the action is heading to the Seminoles.

Minnesota, Twin Cities to be exact. We have 2 rooms. Canterbury Park usually has 52 tables currently 12 Cash 6 max tables and 7 Tournament 6 max table plus rebuys and alternates, buy ins seem to be around 70 players and the 3 weekly tournaments are $150 buy in (1 which is a bounty format) room is well run and players are mostly friendly. Second room is Running Aces which usually has around 24 tables and currently has 3 playing 6 max and no tournies running at this time. Both rooms are roughly 1/2 from downtown Minneapolis with one being south and the other being north

Glad to hear those long-running rooms are somewhat healthy. Takes me back decades to when I had a girlfriend in Dinkytown. Which was extremely inconvenient since I lived in Baltimore.

PA is shut down with no end in sight (not saying it's wrong). Parx has moved all their poker tables out and are now calling it the 'Super Slot Room' or something depressing since they replaced all poker tables with slot machines. Rivers Casino/SugarHouse has not had any new updates for a few months but no reason to think it'll be back anytime soon. Harrah's Chester has announced they are closing the poker room permanently which is not a huge loss. They could never figure it out despite having the WSOP license. I'm still friendly with the local pros & dealers and it seems to be universal that there is no chance anything changes in 2020 with the new year not looking to great either.

In Wisconsin, the big poker room in Milwaukee, Potawatomi, is closed with no statement of when it will be reopening. There are one or two smaller card rooms in the state, but I don't know their status. I would guess they are closed, as they were on life support before covid.

Just received an email today announcing that the Motor City Poker Room in Detroit will be re-opening “next week”! No other details such as date, time, restrictions, etc. were included. That would make it the first of the three rooms in town to re-open. It will be interesting to see how the other rooms respond.
I am very happy for the employees and local players I came to know as I was a regular. My public pronouncement is that I’m not ready to play live yet, it’s too early. We’ll see if my weak @ss can stick to my guns, especially considering the work I have put into my game over the last six months.

Rivers Casino in Schenectady NY will re-open soon. They have converted the poker room into a "Young at Heart" (age 50+) area for slots and table games. No live poker within 100+ miles. No word on if/when Rivers will ever have live poker again.

Regardless of availability, I have no plans to play live poker until likely mid-2021 at the earliest.

@Roblivion as far as I know the only Poker Rooms left in Wisconsin were Onieda (Green Bay) and Potawatomi (Milwaukee). From what I heard Ho Chunk closed their poker room back in 2018. I don't know what the status of the Onieda casino is since I am no longer living in Wisconsin but you are right, the last time I was there (2018) it was not very big and only had 1 or 2 games running.

Also, if someone wants to play poker and just relax in the evening, I recommend this site W88. This site was shown to me by my best friend, who won a lot of money there. And he recommended this site to me and told me to try it. I decided to try and I also managed to hit a big jackpot. But I understand that you need not flirt, otherwise you can lose everything :). In short, I wish you all good luck and big money!

@CriminalBizzy that tracks. Looks like Ho Chunk is not showing up on Bravo.

I played all the club games around town before the casino opened. Your post made me wonder if any of the club games have started back up since the casino poker room is still closed?

I doubt some of the underground rooms ever closed. Highest game at Rivers was 5/10 NLHE, and that only ran on Wednesday nights.

Daily tournaments running again at Aria, where the patrons likely won't mind the masks since many of them already wore bibs.
