Brutal rake beatable?

Hey guys, I'm new at red chip, seems like a nice community :).

Looking forward to playing live again as soon as COVID decides to fold more often. Unfortunately I won't have many games to choose from.

At my local casino I can find the following NLHE games:
Every evening: 2/2, rake 10% cap 10, min-max buy-in 50-150.
Few times a week: 2/4, rake 5% cap 20, min buy-in 150.

So as you can see, the rake at the 2/2 game is pretty brutal, especially since the max buy-in is 75BB. The player pool is very, very fishy though. The regs seem to be drawn to the 2-4 game.

Because of the rake and the capped buy-in I'd like to play the 2/4 game, but I'm not sufficiently rolled for it and it's only available about 2 or 3 times a week (on different days, depending on the wishes of the players).

So my question is: Do you think this 2/2 game is beatable, or is the rake just too damn high?

Good grief. You have my condolences.

In principle, any game is beatable if the game plays deep enough and the players are bad enough, but 10% cap 10 is just gruesome. 5% cap 20 (!!!) is no picnic, do they provide meals, drinks, and a masseuse?

Yea I expected an answer like that. I suppose I better keep focussing on grinding online until I can do some stabs at 5/5 (also 5% cap 20). Thanks for your reply :).

Just for comparison, at 1/2 with 10% rake up to $5, the house takes off between $120 and $150 a hour.

Essentially double that to get your rake and you will see how much money the table loses a hour ($240 - $300) at the 2/2 game assuming 10% rake up to $10.

That is a huge hurdle to overcome with those buyins. Honestly I would strongly consider walking away and not playing or adjust your expectations and play for fun rather than profit. Seems like rolling the stone up the hill that never ends (see Sisyphus). The table losing two buyins a hour before any cards are dealt is close to unbeatable. If you play, super tight and nitty seems to be only way to go.

Does the casino offer any cash back or promotions to ease the pain? (players card etc?)

Heh... In that private 10% cap 10 game I was telling you about in another thread, yes they do!

Seriously, the playing environment itself is probably worth $10 if playing for play money - total pleasure.

In our round n the rake is 5% with a cap of € 30 ($ 35 !!), in Omaha partly without a cap (!!!) and it is played because there is nothing else here in Europe! The only winners are the promoters, but if you want to play live, that's it! If you leave the table as a winner here, then you can probably do it in Vegas too!

That's in Germany? I imagine you can find better in "Europe", even with the UK no longer part of Europe.
