Agro against fish?

I have a tendency of overplaying hands. Hands like this don't normally go in my favor. Villain is very fishy. I thought I could bet him off his hand. His range is wide before the flop. The fact that he continued after the flop I put him on a medium pair with a club draw. I got lucky on the river. Should I have given this hand up at any point? I feel it is likely I was beat until the river. Any thoughts?

These thoughts should never be this close to each other =)

betting against a fish with As high on this kind of flop and turn is good. I used to not bet against fishes because you cannot bluff them but actually As high is often good enough to bet for value. They will call with King high or As with worst kicker or whatever. Betting the river is good for value here. But without the As on the river, I would not bet personnally, I would just go to showdown, my hand might still be good. If you shove with nothing, they will call with bottom pair....
