Stopping the tilt

hidalgohidalgo Red Chipper Posts: 17
Hi all,

As I said in my welcome post I tend to tilt pretty easily online (which isn't the case live) and I think it's because I'm not good at holding myself accountable. My goal here is to post to keep myself accountable for my roll and my actions. After my re-up today my ignition roll is 205.95.

I don't have a specific monetary goal in mind, but I plan on climbing up through 5NL -- moving up once I have 40BI for the next stakes -- and 1$ 6-max hypers. You can see my 6-max hyper graph here, which was around 30% ROI before my tilt (I know, small sample).

I'll post hands, likely ones I think I made mistakes in, to try and get some feedback from you all. I'm hoping your support will keep me from tilting off my roll again! Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Hypers usually have a ton of variance, but because there is little training information out there on hypers they can be pretty profitable. I was actually looking at some hyper hu games because six max on ACR is so reg invested, I thought hypers might be a good way to go.

Then I came across this guy who seems to defy variance. Tilt is usually cost by variance of some kind, so I would suggest playing full ring. Not a lot of advice for you besides managing your money and playing a level where the money doesn't mean much to you. Try not to look at your cashier and just set goals like playing a certain number of hands.

Hey @Austin, thanks for that advice going FR. For some reason I tend toward 6max when I play 5NL, so maybe I'll change it up and try FR. Unbelievable graph on that guy there.

I like the idea of sticking to cash for a bit and seeing how that goes, I'll definitely think that over.

Only got to play 50 hands and a hyper turbo (placed 2nd for 2.1) before the girlfriend pulled me off last night .

Reviewing these hands before I fire up a session today I was looking for some help regarding my value bets as this is usually an area of trouble for me. Here's a hand I'm wondering if there was a better way to get some value. I checked the turn here given villain's turn bet.

its a small squeeze your facing. I probably just fold preflop rather than cold calling a 3 bet despite the small sizing.

    Your oop
    two players behind you
    less than 100bb stack sizes

Just hard to make money with out flopping big. Flop comes Qxx easily have AQ here. Kxx easily have AK here. KQ doesn't play well in 3 bet pots imo.

Thanks @Austin for that perspective on the last hand. I have actually been folding KQ a bit lately in similar situations and it was feeling a bit tight, but glad to see there's some rationale for laying it down pre.

Tough session tonight, I lost about half of my daily losses on the hand below. Villain was playing crazy which is why I called it off, but certainly thinking there are other lines here.

probably go about 12bb on the flop as a cbet and follow up 50-66% barrel on the turn. Once i'm raised there is really not much A10 is beating that someone is raising with on the turn, so I would fold to a turn raise.

How do you know CO is crazy if there are only 2 hands on him?

    Hey @Austin ,

Thanks for your comments on the last hand, I see I need a bit larger bet size in that situation postflop. I was observing table before sitting down so that's how I knew he was showing down with some weird stuff.

Finally got to play 100 hands tonight (not the 1k session I wanted) and it went pretty well. I was actually playing 3 tables, 2FR and 1 6 max and came out ahead on all 3.

Most of the winnings came from the hand below. Just looking for a line check here. Heads up I think this is an easy call but given the multiway pot I am looking for some input.

you made a solid ISO raise that happen to go 6 ways. That's the way the cookie crumbles some times. You flopped 3rd nuts with a 2 SPR. Time to play for stacks.

My only advice on this hand is to top off each hand. There should be a auto top off feature where it keeps you are 100bb or whatever the table max is. If you believe you have an edge over the table then you should be trying to maximize your value.

Most of the time you will iso QJs
    3 players
    Flop (18bb) K92
    Hero bets 12bb
    folds x2

Initiative and aggression is where a lot of poker profits come from. 88 and 44 are still the best hands on this flop, but they are playing to make hands. You are playing poker.

Tough morning session here. Pretty frustrated -- dealt a lot of premium starting hands such as AA, KK, and QQ and couldn't come out in the green.
    fuez4xpgy83a.png

My last two hands of the session were where I went down. I made a SPR of 2 PF with my KK, got villain's stack in on the flop to find AA.

Next hand I had it all in with AQo and got called by 93s which flopped a flush.

I guess not much I can do about those 2, just sucks to be down a BI after being up. End rant..

    Hi all,

I have had trouble sticking to my plan. I really like MTTs which I know are super high variance but I really enjoy them more than cash games. I just placed 7th in a 30+3 5k gtd, I got knocked out on this hand. Hard to take this beat; really looking for a line check here. I used to shove pre with this type of hand in the past, but I tried to learn from my past mistakes here.

your 3 bet sizing is too small. With 26bb effective and facing a 4x open I think I would just ship it preflop. A decent size 3 bet is close to half your stack already.

Now if villain opened min 2bb then making it like 7bb with a little room to double barrel all in post. Vs a 3x or 4 x opened probably best just to ship it. I don't see the point in doing basically a min 3bet with AK which only hits the flop roughly 30% of the time. Maximize your fold equity when you get short like this.
