Wanting information on Atlantic City. Playing in the Borgata Winter Poker Open.

morel huntermorel hunter Red Chipper Posts: 180 ✭✭
I will be in AC on 1/17 - 1/20 for the Borgata Winter Poker Open. I plan on playing the $2M Deepstack Kickoff and some $2/$5 after I bink the tourney.

- Where is a good economical place to stay? Harrah's?
- Does the Borgata charge for parking? If so, can it be comped through tourney and or cash play?
- Where are the desired rooms to play $2/$5 during this period?
- Where is the best seafood (ie: crab legs) buffet? Years ago, Harrah's was the place.
- Are there tours of Jimmy Hoffa's burial site at Giants stadium? (joking)

Thanks in advance for any input.

I go to AC most weeks for 2 or 3 nights.....probably be there Tuesday Wednesday Thursday night when your down. Be mostly playing 1-2 at harrahas, but may play a little 2-5.

As far as economical place to stay. 4 hours of poker gets you a room a harrahs. Though if you not diamond it cost $27 for fees. If you oppt out of maid service they do give a $10 food comp per night as well. I did not play much poker at Borgota last year so they stopped giving me comped rooms, and there "poker rates" seem very high relative to Harrahs. Tack on another 22.50 to the price Borgota quotes you for fees.

I don't know how parking works...Harrahs comps it for I think 2 hours of poker (my diamond card gets me vallet parking free). Borgota, you probably want to call the room and find out.

As far as playing 2-5 during the week, Borgota is usually the only place. They switch to a 200 to 1000 buy in a couple of month ago making the games play a bit deeper. 1-2 now plays 100 to 500 (same as Harrahs) now.

Harrahs sometimes gets very soft 2-5 from the spillover during the Borgota tournaments but don't count on it. On weekends 2-5 tends to run. Bally's golden nugget, and Tropicana almost never have 2-5 games (maybe once in a while during the weekends).

The buffet at Harrahs still has crab legs, though they are snow crab the smaller type. I believe it cost about $40. 5 hours of play at the poker room gets you a $10 food comp (just dropped it from $15) and if you opt out of maid service they will give you a $10 food credit per night as well.

I will try and do a better job this time @persuadeo as far as giving you something less embarrassing to write about me in the blog.

@Eazzy for the harrah's room rate with 4 hours of poker - in your experience do rooms fill up during this weekend, or would I be good to just book a flight and assume I'll get a room through playing a couple hours?

    I will definitely do this.

Can't wait to meet everyone. I'm am in no way an events planner but maybe we can go off of this thread, or a new one, that week and set a time and place to meet up.

    I did book a room at Harrah's for the 17, 18, and 19 for about $300.

Will @Faustovaldez123 be making an appearance?

I always try to get a meet up going. I don't know my schedule for tournament work at the moment, but I generally am on the swing shift.

Rooms are never available to poker players on the weekends....95% available during the week this time of year (once in a while they get a 3 or 4 conventions and a poker tournament next door and I can't get a room).

Just checked for me with my awesome diamond card they are quoting me $38 Friday 19th and $95 Saturday 20th (no fees will be added) at harrahs. I can't stay the weekend so if your rates are much higher let me know, I don't mind booking these and walking you to the front desk. IM if your interested.

Would be awesome to have some non poker activity for a meetup since I'm assuming we'd all be playing different stakes and personally not sure I wanna sit down at a table with you all :)

Also just great to have a break if people are working or grinding tourneys to have some dinner or drinks maybe a nice cigar if anyone is so inclined

My plan is to arrive in AC on Wed. the 17th and go to the Borgata and register for the "Day 1E Thurs. Jan. 18th 10 A.M. , Event 1" (ie: the following day tourney entry).

I am concerned that this time slot will be filled and I will be on an alternate list with this being the last day of Day 1. Should I be concerned? Or by registering the day before, I should not have a problem? I don't want to be an alternate. I see that I can register online with the exception of no refunds. I'd rather not register online.

I can't imagine you having a problem if you register the day before. It's a rebuy tournament.

Enjoy your time in one of my favorite Degen destinations! Harrahs has cheap rooms most of the time but Baileys can be the cheapest (although the rooms are in need of a upgrade). If you really wanna stay cheap the Showboat is closed but still rents rooms. (Please don’t stay here)

I haven’t been since they changed the Buy-in structure at Borgata to match other properties. Before the change the 2/5 at Harrahs was always a great game on the weekends.

Cash games at Borgata are always great during a tournament series. I have found the occasional late night game at Golden Nugget that is worth sitting as well. I would steer clear of Baileys, I’ve seen some less than honorable behavior at the tables there during the few short sessions I played.

As far as food goes, Yes Harrahs has crab legs on the buffet. If you haven’t been to White House subs, check it out. One of the better sub shops around. Also there is an excellent Taco and Tequilla bar at the Trop thats worth the trip.

Have fun and be safe. Outside of the casino area can be pretty crummy. Looking forward to hearing about the trip!

I played in the last flight of Event #1 in the Fall series at Borgata and had zero issues. I registered about an hour before the event. I doubt you will have a problem but registering the day before is not a bad idea.

Most of those early days i will end coverage at midnight, so we can meet up for a drink then, or there is the possibility of getting a private game going on the 24th or 28th.
